Grounded in Climate Science
Despite the introduction of climate change measures by governments, companies, civil society and other actors, total greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are increasing. Under today’s trajectory, global mean temperatures are projected to rise 3.7 to 4.8°C by the end of this century, far beyond the levels of warming that the international scientific community identifies as safe.
At Nimble, we believe action has the power to prove there’s a better way forward. Today, we’re pleased to announce that our emissions reduction efforts have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), marking a significant milestone in Nimble’s journey towards a smarter, sustainable future.
Approved by SBTi, our near-term target covering GHG emissions from Nimble’s operations (Scopes 1 and 2) is in step with necessary reductions to keep warming to 1.5°C, the most ambitious goal of the Paris Agreement. Their approval means our target is not just aggressive, but scientifically aligned with global efforts to mitigate climate change.
The Science Based Targets initiative Explained
The SBTi is a collaboration among the CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF).
It’s the gold standard in helping companies across the globe measure and manage their contributions to climate change, connecting them with what the latest science deems necessary to transition to a low-carbon economy.
Our Commitment to Action
Nimble has always strived to set an example by raising our environmental standards. With SBTi’s validation, we've set clear, scientifically based goals:
- Reduce total direct and indirect GHG emissions (42%) by 2030: This includes Scopes 1 and 2 emissions of controlled operations from our 2022 base year, ensuring that our company footprint leads by example.
- Measure and reduce Scope 3 emissions: Recognizing the broader impact of our products, from creation to customer, we’re strengthening our approach across the entire lifecycle.
Our Strategy for Change
Progress requires action, and we’re committed to implementing comprehensive strategies to meet our targets:
- Conducting Frequent Assessments: By regularly auditing current emissions, we can accurately gauge direct and indirect emissions generated from purchased electricity, heating, cooling, and overall energy consumption across operations within our controlled facilities.
- Implementing Reduction Actions: Investments in upgraded technology, lower-carbon fuel alternatives, equipment maintenance, energy efficiency programs and management systems will allow us to improve reductions in all areas of emissions output.
- Engaging Stakeholders: Ongoing education through internal training programs focused on new regulations and sustainability practices will aim to preserve and improve our existing culture of environmental responsibility.
- Evaluating Product Design: Every product we create is scrutinized through the lens of ecological impact, driving solutions to reduce emissions, increase efficiency, and develop advancements in recycling and material recovery.
- Empowering Our Suppliers: We’re collaborating closely with partners in our supply chain to ensure they also remain committed to change, and substantial reductions in GHG emissions.
- Reporting and Verifying Progress: By leveraging automated systems for energy monitoring and data gathering, we’ll continue to develop transparent reports on reduction progress in preparation of third-party verification, leading to more effective analysis and decision-making.
Why This Matters
Climate change challenges all of us to rethink how we live and work. By integrating more meaningful objectives into the core of our business practices, we’re not only ensuring Nimble’s future, but also contributing to a healthier ecosystem.
The next few years are critical, and companies have a vital role to play in making progress at the pace and scale needed. We’re proud to join over 5,000 companies as leaders in the low-carbon transition, proving our commitment by letting science dictate our course of action.
We truly appreciate your support in our quest to make a difference. For more details about our reduction goals, and the Science Based Targets initiative, please visit SBTi's website.
Together, let's turn the challenge of climate change into a catalyst for innovation. We all must be ready to take action for a better future that’s not just possible, but inevitable.
